Re: MOLD & MILDEW ON BOOKS



Airing out the books is a good idea, and sunlight should kill active mold,
but care should be taken not to expose rare archival materials to too much
light and heat.  This is an option for moldy books, but I wouldn't do it on
anything that is irreplaceable.  I've also had conservators recommend
vacuuming the items to remove the mold spores after cleaning the items with
a document cleaning pad.  I'd never add bleach, alcohol, or anything wet to
archival materials.
