I'm in agreement with Denise; Barari's explanation of the article, with all its stated high-mindedness, did not make the article much less annoying. I was not deeply offended by it, for I assure you I do have both thick skin and a sense of humor, but I was annoyed 1) because it wasn't AT ALL funny; 2) because I'm just woefully tired of sexist boring old librarian jokes; and 3) because people are likely to believe what he said. I am glad to know, however, that he thought he was being funny.

But anyway, what I really want to know from the list is this: Following up on what Daniel says here...

I'd like to know what people say when trying to explain what archivists do. Everyone must have a pat speech put to memory that they drag out at the doctor's office or cocktail party. How do you explain in 20-50 words or less what you do?
