Are You Being Served?

All,

AARRGGHH!! After re-reading my message expressing concern about the
possibility that researchers without e-mail addresses might possibly
find themselves denied service by an archives or pushed to the back of
the queue, Peter Kurilecz affirmed that he interpreted my words as a
" 'how dare you ask for an email address' message."

Well, when I re-read my message the following phrases stand out for me:
"reasonable to _expect_ researchers to provide e-mail addresses" (which
is the phrasing I believe Steve Masar used in his original posting
asking the question); "current _insistence_ on e-mail addresses";
"e-mail is only one of the legitimate _choices_ of communication";
"society trending more and more away from _choice_ and toward
_mandatory_ use of e-mail."

I'm not boycotting e-mail. I'm only asking for consideration for those
researchers who don't, for whatever reason, use it.

Here I really _do_ rest my case. I promise to refrain from posting any
more messages on this subject. You all have permission to inundate me
with a million of your most un-favorite spam e-mails--each--if I break
this solemn oath!
