Subject: RE: 1814 Red Leather stainsThanks for your input! I have come to the conclusion that I should cover the books with Tyvek or Mylar D covers. I think this is the best way to go. I actually think putting a solution on the books is inappropriate. Thanks again,Nancy IannucciEmma Willard School Archives-----Original Message-----

Subject: Re: 1814 Red Leather stainsWith all due respect to Joanne Sawyer and those vendors who carry the product CELLUGEL, I have heard from one colleague that this product creates a permanent bond, and thus does Not meet archival standards. Subject: Re: 1814 Red Leather stainsI have had success with this problem by using CELLUGEL, a preservative available from Preservation Solutions and sold through many archival suppliers. It is applied with sponge-tipped applicators, which are available in any paint or hardware store. Dries very quickly and appears to work.Joanne M. Sawyer

Subject: 1814 Red Leather stainsHello All,
Happy Friday to you!
Can anyone tell me if there is a special "safe" solution that I can apply to leather bound books? I have a number of ledgers and journals that have red leather covers. There's some interesting information that students can use from these ledgers for their history assignments. It would be great if they could handle the books to read from them. At the present, if these books are handled- the red leather bleeds and stains your gloves. I would like to prevent these books from bleeding. Is there a product I can use that will provide a safe solution?
Thanks for your help in advance.
