URGENT NOTICE - Giuliani Records Case

Apologies for any duplication, or if I'm anticipating anyone else's posting
on the subject, but the NY City Council will be meeting tomorrow, June 25,
to debate two bills regarding Mayor Giuliani's privatization of his mayoral
records earlier this year. I'll be out a lot of the day, and I wanted to
get this out early.

The Gotham Center at CUNY has prepared several webpages on the subject, as
well as ways to contact the Council and express your opinion on the matter.
I've taken the liberty of updating the webpages of NYART (our local
archivists group, for those unaware) with the text of Mike Wallace's (of the
GC) email, which includes links to the Gotham Center pages:

http://www.nycarchivists.org/special11.html

The Gotham Center can be found at:

http://www.gothamcenter.org/

Needless to say, you can find lots of information on the situation there.
High praise to Mike Wallace, who has worked terribly hard on this problem.

I urge anyone with an interest in keeping the public's records public,
especially here in New York, to contact the City Council and express your
opinion on the matter.

DS

(Again, apologies if I stepped on anyone's toes - 'twas unintentional)
