MANUSCRIPT ARCHIVIST 
SPECIAL COLLECTIONS
THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT ARLINGTON LIBRARIES

Manuscript Archivist.  The University of Texas at Arlington Libraries
invites dynamic and innovative librarians and/or archivists to apply for its
Manuscript Archivist position.  This position provides leadership in
developing, appraising, accessioning, and providing access to the historical
manuscript and photograph collections and in the public service area of
Special Collections.  Responsibilities include appraising and accessioning
historical manuscript and photograph collections; overseeing the processing
and preservation activities for the collections; overseeing the operations
of the unit's service desk, including the scheduling of desk assignments and
the supervising and training of staff and student workers; answering
reference questions and working on the service desk; and serving as the
unit's security officer.
As a member of Special Collections, the Historical Manuscript Archivist is
one of six professionals (5 FTE) and four support staff (3.5 FTE) within a
program area that contains and makes accessible unique resources to, not
only  UTA faculty, staff, and students, but also to the wider research
community.  Working hours includes non-traditional hours, including work on
Saturdays, evenings, and holidays on a rotation basis
Required Qualifications:  Masters degree from an ALA accredited program or a
M.A. in history.
Preferred Qualifications:  Coursework in archival management, an archival
certificate, and/or membership in the Academy of Certified Archivists;
experience in a service situation (preference to a library or special
collections setting); supervisory experience; background in history,
especially Texas history; training in EAD; experience processing historical
or archival collections; background in the preservation of library
materials; good organizational and interpersonal skills; and familiarity
with Microsoft Office.
Minimum salary $35,000 with academic rank and salary determined by
credentials and experience.
