Re: two questions, now Women's Land Army

Joan -

I did a quick Internet search with the search engine: www.brainespot.com
using the phrase
"women's land army" and it produced results to sites in the US as well as
outside the U.S.

(www.brainespot.com seems to be comparable to the no longer extant
www.infind.com)

Good hunting!

In the current discussion about German POWs held in the U.S., there have
been some mentions about POWs being used as farm labor in some areas.
Along this line, does anyone have any materials on the Women's Land Army
during the war in the U.S? Approximately, three million women, worked as
volunteers, or for room and board/low wages, on farms throughout the
country. Some were teachers who took time during their summer to help
with tending animals, cultivating, or harvesting. There have been a few
academic articles about these women, but not books and personal memoirs
that you find on the subject from the women in Great Britain, who had a
similar program.

Do any of your repositories have any materials, oral histories, news
articles about these women?
