This was a fairly widespread gripe.  A man here, who became prominent
later, spent some time as a POW guard before being shipped overseas.
He recalls that while escorting a small group of POWs (Italian or German
or both isn't clear) from one camp to another, having to stop at a small
restaurant for lunch.  The POWs were allowed to enter and be served--
the small contingent of black guards had to remain outside.
