DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Houston Public Library has a significant collection of archival
materials (manuscripts, records, architectural plans, photographs, oral
histories and films) related to the history of the metropolitan area. The
person in this position will act as an assistant manager, directing and
monitoring daily operations including training and supervision of staff and
volunteers. Duties also include participating in a variety of activities for
preservation and access, coordinating the processing of materials and
production of finding aids and assisting with planning and implementation of
the digitization program. Will provide reference assistance to customers
with in-depth research questions.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be
able to use a computer to access/input information.  Position requires
stooping, bending and lifting library materials up to 20 pounds; must be
able to push loaded book truck.  Must be able to move freely throughout the
unit to file/retrieve library materials.

MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Master's degree in Library Science or a related Humanities field.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of three years experience is required after master's degree
including one year of supervisory experience.

MINIMUM LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
Requires a valid Texas Driver's License and compliance with the City of
Houston policy on driving (AP2-2).

PREFERENCES
Special training in archivist fields and/or a Certified Archivist (C.A.).
Ability to plan and organize work. Current computer skills including
Microsoft Windows and Office. Experience with digitization and knowledge of
EAD a plus. Customer/public service experience preferred. Education and/or
work experience with architectural collections is highly desirable.

SALARY INFORMATION
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's
qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this
classification.  The minimum to midpoint of this salary range is:
$1308 - $1802 Biweekly;  $34,139 - $47,032 Annually
