Perhaps someone else can provide the name of the article, but also useful
on this subject is Joanne Yates, *Control Through Communication*.

Subject: historic financial records

Hello!

Back in the 80s, when I was a beginning archivist, a colleague gave me an
article that was a great introduction to 19th and early 20th century
financial records--it described all the types of ledgers, how they were
interrelated, what kind of information they contained.

Does anyone recall this and have a citation for it?

Thanks!
