SAA pre-conference information

With apologies for cross posting

Dear Archivists,

Don't miss the chance to work with your own finding aids while you develop a
better understanding of the role of standardized data in online archival
information systems. If you are contemplating registering for the Beyond
the Static Finding Aid: Delivering EAD with Freely Available Open Source
XML Tools workshop, please note that registration for this workshop closes
on August 5.
The instructors will ask for an e-mailed EAD-encoded finding aid from each
participant's repository two weeks prior to the workshop. Analysis of
encoding variation among participants' finding aids will serve as a basis
for developing a better understanding of the role of standardized data in
online archival information systems. You will be working directly with EAD
tags and must understand the concept of validation and be able to interpret
validation error messages referencing the EAD DTD.

You can register for all other workshops up to the start date contingent on
space availability!

P.S. To be sure both of us (as co-directors of education) get this
important message, and that one of us replies in a timely fashion, please
select "reply all" or copy Patti at pohara@archivists.org when responding.
Thanks!
