Cenntenial of Speed to Draw from Archives: 2.5 million racing photos, slides, negatives and 12,000 hours of video

I've been asked to post the following release:

Centennial of Speed to Commemorate Birth of American Motorsports
Year-Long Celebration Beginning in 2003
To Document 100 Years of Racing in Daytona Beach Area
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (July 3, 2002) On March 26, 1903, the first
automotive contest held on Volusia County (Fla.) beaches pitted
Alexander Winton aboard his Bullet #1 against H.T.Thomas driving Ransom
E. Olds? Pirate. Winton won the contest by a mere 1/5 of a second at a
blistering speed of over 57 miles per hour. The
historic event opened the door to nearly 100 years of auto racing
history.

In 2003, 100 years later, International Speedway Corporation (ISC), a
leader in motorsports entertainment, will celebrate that historic moment
with a national year-long Centennial of Speed celebration.

The Centennial of Speed initiative will kick off during Speedweeks 2003
at Daytona International Speedway a place synonymous with racing, rich
tradition and prestige. ISC and Daytona International Speedway will also
work closely with local civic groups in Ormond Beach and Daytona Beach
as they celebrate 100 years of racing in the area.

Integration of the program will be supported throughout the year by
ISC?s 12 motorsports facilities nation-wide, ISC Publications and a
dedicated website as well as on-air radio support from MRN, the nation?s
largest independent sports radio network.

The exciting initiative will draw heavily from ISC?s extensive and
historical archives department that currently includes more than 2.5
million racing photos, slides and negatives as well as 12,000 hours of
racing videos from major auto racing events throughout the 20th
century. http://www.centennialofspeed.com/
