Re: HVAC systems

Melissa,

There was a similar request a few weeks ago on the Medical Librarians listserv from a librarian in Hong Kong. A fellow listserver recommended the following document which is available off the Internet as a PDF file at www.niso.org/standards/resources/Z39-79-2001.pdf

NISO (U.S.). Environmental Conditions for Exhibiting Library and Archival Materials. ANSI/NISO Z39.79-2001

It has chapters on relative humidity, temperature, and pollutants. Hope this helps.

Can anyone recommend a written source (book, article, web site) with
information about environmental systems for archives? Today, I'm
specifically looking for information about ventilation standards. I am
working with an institution that has ventilation from their loading area
into their archives' vaults. There is soot around the air vent. (YUCK!)
Questions about HVAC come up on the list quite often, but there seems to be
little information about this subject.

Thank you,
Melissa Mannon
