Special Collections Cataloger Position

ECU?s Academic Library Services seeks an enthusiastic, creative, and
service-oriented individual for the position of Cataloger. Reporting to the
Head of Cataloging, this position will be primarily responsible for the
original cataloging of rare books and manuscripts housed in the Special
Collections and North Carolina Departments, as well as other specialized
collections as needed, using OCLC and the epixtech Horizon online catalog.
Serves as subject liaison to an academic department.

Required Qualifications: ALA-accredited master?s degree or international
equivalent; two years recent experience in cataloging rare books and/or
manuscripts using Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, Library of Congress
classification and subject headings; familiarity with technology in a
library setting.

Preferred Qualifications: experience with a national bibliographic utility
and a local online library system; experience in cataloging at least one
type of non-print material, e.g., electronic resources, maps, etc.;
experience with authority control; familiarity with established and emerging
metadata standards (TEI, EAD, Dublin Core, etc.); familiarity with web
applications; bibliographic knowledge of European languages; supervisory
experience; excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
ability to work effectively with staff and users.

Twelve-month, tenure track faculty position with appointment at the rank of
Assistant Professor.  Professional achievement, service, and
research/creative activity are required for tenure and promotion.  Minimum
salary: $35,000, depending upon qualifications and experience.  The salary
is supported by a comprehensive fringe benefits package.
