Sources For Research

The School of Library, Archival and Information Studies at the
University of British Columbia invites applications for a tenure-
track assistant or associate professor position with a specialization
in the study of electronic records. This position will be designated
as a Tier II Canada Research Chair. This prestigious position will be
funded through the federal government program, with access to support
appropriate to the program and goals. It is planned that this
position will be associated with the Centre for the International
Study of Contemporary Records and Archives (CISCRA) already approved
by the University and with a major international research group
studying long-term preservation of electronic records of artistic,
scientific, and governmental endeavour (the InterPARES project),
which is directed from the University. The successful candidate will
be expected to take part in interdisciplinary research on electronic
records and teach courses in the School. Possible areas for teaching
are long-term preservation of electronic records, the legal framework
affecting access and copyright of digital sources, and authenticity
of sources from multi-disciplinary perspectives.

Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. degree in archival studies or
in a discipline relevant to research on electronic records with a
demonstrated record of exceptional research. To apply, please send a
curriculum vitae, list of publications, a short statement of research
interests, selected reprints, and names of three referees to
Professor Terence Eastwood, Acting Director, School of Library,

1956 Main Mall, Vancouver, B.C., V6T 1Z1. The position will be open
until filled. The University of British Columbia hires on the basis
of merit, and it is committed to employment equality. We encourage
all qualified persons to apply. There is no restriction with regard
to nationality or residence, and the position is open to all
candidates. Offers will be made in keeping with immigration
