Privacy Notice

EcoAccess respects your privacy whether you're a first-time visitor or a dedicated volunteer. That's why we disclose our privacy practices.

We log all accesses to our Internet site. If you volunteer to help us, we will collect and store some information about you. This document explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and what we do with it.

EcoAccess Privacy Policy

It is our policy

No Registration Necessary

You do not need to register to use our web site. We provide information for free to everyone.

As you may know, EcoAccess is building a web site with the help of volunteers from around the world. You only need to register if you have something to contribute.

After you have registered and confirmed your account, you can view and change the information stored about you in our account system. You can also close your account at any time, in which case we will remove your record from our database.

Even after we remove your record from our account database, the information you send to us may be stored on backup tapes.

Information We Collect

Internet Connections

Following standard industry practices, EcoAccess logs information from all visitors to our web site, including the Internet Protocol (IP) address, operating system, and browser software. From your IP address, your Internet Service Provider and your geographic location could be determined.

We use this information to identify the most popular parts of our site, verify that our site is functioning properly, and evaluate the effectiveness of our promotions. We typically store several months of unencrypted log files on our servers.

In the general course of business, EcoAccess does not collect the e-mail addresses of people who send us e-mail. We forward messages to contractors or volunteers for reply. We do not store e-mail messages on our servers, except incidentally as part of the normal functioning of our SMTP servers. We do not control what contractors and volunteers do with the e-mail we forward to them.

We do archive e-mail messages to our mailing lists. These archives may be maintained by third parties and may contain the names and e-mail addresses of subscribers.

Registration Forms

EcoAccess collects personal identifying information from potential volunteers. (Personal identifying information is information that identifies a specific individual or information which, when tied to specific information, can identify a specific individual.)

For example, your full name is personal identifying information, and your e-mail address could also be personal identifying information if it is tied to your full name. However, if you established your e-mail address anonymously (which is possible through some web-based e-mail services), then your e-mail address is not personal identifying information.

EcoAccess currently does not collect the e-mail address of potential volunteers. In the future, in order to verify the identity of our contributors, we may ask for this or additional information including real name, home or other physical address, or phone number.

We provide a link to this notice wherever we collect personal identifying information. Such information will be used only for the purposes stated at the location of the collection, subject to our Privacy Policy stated above.

When we collect personal identifying information, you will always have the choice not to provide it. However, you may not be able to participate in some activities without providing the information requested.

We use the personal identifying information we collect to maintain and improve our services. Such uses include coordinating work flow, soliciting feedback, and sending announcements to our volunteers. At times we may use third parties to provide these services.

EcoAccess does not control the actions of our visitors or volunteers. You disclose personal information to them at your own risk. EcoAccess does not assume any responsibility for the actions of third parties.

Information Access

If you have not registered as a volunteer, we are not storing any personal identifying information about you (other than the logs we keep of all Internet Connections described above).

If you have registered as a volunteer, you can find out what information EcoAccess maintains about you, or change or delete any information in our active account database, by logging in to your volunteer account.

When you resign as an EcoAccess volunteer, we may delete your information from our active database. Of course, residual information will remain in our archive databases and backup tapes.

Our databases are maintained at a third-party co-location facility connected to the Internet. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee the security of any of the information we collect and store.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this Privacy Notice, please contact us at privacy@ecoaccess.org.
