salutations

hello there , glad to be apart of CSA list! This by way of introductions:
We farm a 126 acre homestead in S. Central B.C. where we grow 5 acres of
vegetables, 3 of covercrop rotates with vegies and 40 acres hay,
organically. There are woods, ponds and pasture and animals. We cultivate
and practice no-till both. Our primary income falls to Farmers Markets and
retail but we depend upon C.S.A shares to hold us together for a year round
income. This allows both of us to work full-time on the farm and employ
people to help and get a little break in the winter!
We have 20 CSA shareholders this season, 8 who were with us last
year. Most advertising was done word of mouth or through the markets. We
don't segragate the CSA plantings from our other crops because this would
muss with roatations but we do grow a number of things especially for the
CSA and those have there own plot. Quantities of food for weekly boxes are
determined subjectively and we might try something different this season:
Has anyone (who also does farmers markets) tried a self-serve box?
I'm worried these days about Genetically Altered seed and soil
bacterial that is being released unprecedentedly as in foul, beligerent
experiment on a grand scale and what we can possibly do about it now. Also
interested in land trusts and apprenticeship programs.
Looking forward to the list, Anne
