MacFusion
MacFusion is a GUI front end for the MacFUSE product from Google. These packages allow a macintosh computer to mount remote volumes from servers that are running SSH daemons. When you login via MacFusion, the directory you specify will be mounted to /Volumes as a server point, so you can access the files there via Finder, just as if the sever were mounted via Apple's File Protocol or SMB/CIFS.
This product also works as an alternative to other remote file systems, such as OpenAFS (since most afs cells have login servers that use afs as home directory space). For example:
- If you are at UNC Chapel Hill, you can access your AFS home
directory by mounting isis.unc.edu with MacFusion.
- You can also connect to any Mac with Remote Login enabled in System Preferences, Sharing, assuming you have a vliad id and password.
- And if you'd like to access a windows workstation, you can
install an ssh server, such as CopSSH. This package
enables ssh and sftp services, and thus supports FUSE clients.
