Thank you to all the Carolina birders who responded to my RFI.
Given the rainy conditions, I wasn't sure I'd get any birding in.
Fortunately, on Wednesday I managed about 4 hours of rain-free birding. I
chose to follow the route CW Cook has posted on his website,
http://www.duke.edu/~cwcook/tbg/hankschapel.html - Hanks Chapel and Gum
Springs Road. (On my way to Butner Gamelands, it started to pour, so I
headed to the airport instead.)
There are two species at Robeson Creek that I did not expect - a sedge wren
and a Thrush sp. (ok, four species - Red-headed Woodpecker and Northern
Parula) I am confident the thrush was either a Bicknell's or a Gray-cheeked.
Is there anyone/where to submit my notes for the sighting?
Here is a list of birds from my outing (or highlights for a CA birder):
Hanks Chapel:
Eastern Bluebird
Chipping Sparrow
Slate-colored Junco
Canoe Access:
Black Vultures
White-throated Sparros
Robeson Creek - very birdy! The birdiest area was at the bottom of the trail
in a flooded area on the left.
White throated Sparrows (24+)
Golden-crowned Kinglets (about 12)
Red-headed Woodpecker
Eastern Phoebe (3)
Northern Parula (heard only)
Thrush sp. singing (Gray cheeked or Bicknell's)
Sedge Wren
If any of you are birding on central coast of California, drop me a note and
I'll be happy to go birding with...
Thanks again!
