Kerr Scott Lake, N. Wilkesboro (common loon, horned grebes, pine warbler)

C.Birders,

Though this morning didnt, at first, seem to be offering much activity, 29 species were picked up at Kerr Scott Lake in North Wilkesboro within 3 hours after sun-up.

Commoners:

american robins
eastern bluebirds
northen mockingbirds
brown thrasher (suitably thrashing about in dead leaves)
american crows
white-throated sparrows
ruby-crowned kinglets
northern flickers
eastern phoebes (playing the banjo)
carolina wrens
mallards
belted kingfishers
song sparrows (singing)
northern cardinals
eastern tufted titmice
mourning dove
pileated woodpeckers (on percussion)
dark-eyed juncos
white-breasted nuthatches (on horns)
american goldfinches
field sparrow
unidentified accipiter (working the bluebird boxes)

Not so common (to us in Boone):

lesser scaup (at least 30 from afar)
mucho golden-crowned kinglets
1 common loon
1 bufflehead
2 horned grebes (in a neat intermediate plumage)
2 hermit thrush
1 pine warbler

No joke.

Cant wait till spring is arriving up-slope a bit more.  And we shall all join in the festivities, merrily watching warblers in trees with no leaves (for a couple of weeks).
