Santee NWR

Checked out Santee today with my new scope. The birding was good but the
highlight was seeing an alligator in the new scope(Cuddo had some nice big
ones!). Shorebird habitat was none existent in the Buff and Cuddo units.
Pine Island had some but only lessor yellowlegs, common snipe, killdeer and
least sandpiper were present. Pine Island also had the best marshes with a
lifer King Rail being seen and heard along with some other noises that
sounded like birds(Sora?). Nearby in the trees I saw my first Orchard
Oriole of the season along with Kingbird. Dave Collopy
