Hat trick and Birds in the Media

In mid-November I watched a Brown-headed Nuthatch and a Red-breasted
Nuthatch object to each others presence at my sunflower seed feeder, while a
White-breasted Nuthatch was only a few feet away at the birdbath.
White-breasteds are about as uncommon in my little forest as are
Red-breasteds, so I felt pretty lucky.

And, while we're on the subject of birds in the media, there was a great
article about Susan Campbell and
the Rufous Hummingbird and other winter hummers at

and Hal Broadfoot's "About Birds" column for December was about the Tropical
Kingbird (and how it may have gotten to NC) that made an appearance in
November at Pea Island.
