warblers in the back yard!



The hooded warbler has returned to Butler Mountain!
Heard the first song this morning- two weeks earlier than recorded last
year. Also heard a black-and-white warbler (see haiku below), saw a pileated
woodpecker, and unfortunately, a first for this location, 3 brown-headed
cowbirds.

Also birded NC Arboretum yesterday, along the creek, heard and saw several
N. Parula, with outstanding looks as several males worked in a thicket below
us. What a treat (and what a change) to see these beautiful birds from
above! Was mostly hiking with a non-birding friend, here's the list....

brought spring to the mountain
