Re: Golden Wing query

Curtis Smalling is conducting a study on Golden Wings here in the mountains
and has found a good number of them in Watauga County. One (or more) is
defending territory on Rich Mtn. Rd., just below Rich Mtn. Gap on the NC
side. I can give further details, if desired, or will be pleased to help
you find this bird if anyone desires a local guide. (Too bad we didn't find
this fellow on our CBC field trip to the gap a couple springs ago). Curtis
reports finding a good handful of golden wings in the Silverstone area,
including a couple hybrids. Check his Watauga Cnty bird hotline for details
(828-265-0198). Sounds as if he found Kentucky warblers and y.b. chats
there as well.
