Hello, this is a May 22 update of the Carolina Rare Bird Alert featuring
birding news from North and South Carolina sponsored by the Carolina Bird
Club. There have been no new reports of rarities to this RBA since the last
update. Birders travelling this weekend to the mountains or coast may want to
stop off in Monroe , NC to see the nesting SCISSOR-TAILED FLYCATCHERS.
>From US 74 in Monroe take Rte. 200 South. Rte. 200 will turn right shortly
after the exit, birders should stay STRAIGHT. This is Rte. 207 (Hayne St.).
Stay on 207 through town and for several miles south of town. Turn right at a
blinking light at Wolf Pond Rd. Go for about 4 miles to where Joe Collins Rd.
comes in from the right. Look for a prominent sign "FLYCATCHERS "on the side
of the road directing birders to turn left onto a dirt road/driveway. Follow
the signs from here to the flycatchers.
