Yard news

Some very loud, nearby screaming brought me out of the house this morning
just in time to see 16 bluejays drive two juvenile osprey back across the
marsh where they had come from. Such noise!. The osprey
called/whistled/screamed the whole time.

Since I was out, I decided to check the bird houses and there are three new
baby bluebirds and an egg in a new nest built on top of the previous nest.
A titmouse nest is lined with my husband's hair from his last trim by me.

I heard or saw 20 species in the time I was out. I'm hearing the peewee,
but haven't seen him yet. There are between 12 and 20 cardinals around the
feeders and the lame painted bunting is doing fine. The birds have picked
up a lot since the cat next door died. They have bought another one
already--I hope he stays at home.
