Caw Caw Park Ravenel, SC birdwalks



The following are highlights of the early Morning Birdwalks at Charleston
County's Caw Caw Park in Ravenel, SC led by Perry Nugent every Wednesday and
Saturday at 8:30 am.

July 3, 2002. 56 species were seen and/or heard.  The most interesting were;
4 Mississippi Kites, 14 American Avocets in breeding plumage, 1Immature
Hairy Woodpecker  ( two families were raised at the park this spring ), 10
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers ( one female is on a nest ), 16 Painted Buntings, and
1 Orchard Oriole.

July 6, 2002  55 species were seen and/or heard.  The most interesting were;
5 Glossy Ibis, 6 Ospreys, 3 Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 1 Northern Flicker, 1
White-breasted Nuthatch, 8 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers ( Female still on nest ),
1 Blue Grosbeak, 4 Indigo Buntings, 8 Painted Buntings And 1 Immature
Eastern Towhee.

July 10, 2002  50 species were seen.  The most interesting were; 3
Mississippi Kites, 2 adult and 2 immature Swallow-tailed Kites, 2 Ospreys, 3
Spotted Sandpipers, 10 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers ( female still on nest ), 30
Eastern Bluebirds ( many young ), 1 Loggerhead Shrike, 1 Yellow-throated
Vireo, 3 Red-eyed Vireos, 1 Yellow-throated Warbler, 2 immature Pine
Warblers, 2 Summer Tanagers, 1 Blue Grosbeak, 2 Indigo Buntings, and 6
Painted Buntings ( have not seen any banded birds yet ).
