Greetings-
My wife and I are planning a trip to North Carolina this fall. The only firm
plans we have are to spend the weekend of October 4-6 in the Burnsville
area. We have family commitments for that period and will likely be hard
pressed to do much birding then. However, we intend to extend our stay and
are looking for ideas as to where to go and what we might see. We will not
be able to stay long enough to attend the Wings over Water festival- alas.
We probably will fly to Durham or Charlotte initially, rent a car and then
drive to Burnsville. We'll have to retrace our steps at some point for the
return trip.
One question is- what are the birding prospects in the Mountains? Are there
any noted raptor viewing areas? If the mountains are not the place to be,
where is it? Should we make the trip to the coast? If so, where?
Please reply off-list.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
