Birders:
With many thanks to Taylor P., our RBA man on the spot, birding friend,
Carolyn Bush and I found the LeConte's sparrow at Ocean Isle Beach,
Sat., Mar.11, AM. It was in the weedy rutty "field", which I couldn't
believe any self-respecting LeConte's would be inhabiting, when there
were nice untouched grassy fields nearby, but there he was. You see I
had birded the other areas and been unsuccessful on a previous day.
First blue-gray gnatcatcher in yard Sat., made me determined to find a
Yellow-throated warbler, so drove and walked in the county (Brunswick)
yesterday, Mon., 'til I found one.
Also at Ocean Isle Beach was a very yellow (lutescens-type?)
Orange-crowned warbler.
A ton of shorebirds at low tide at the beach didn't reveal anything
exciting, but then I didn't bring scope, cause I was sparrow chasing.
"Our" ring-neckeds left but there are still a few widgeons and gadwalls,
and of course our resident woodies. The Great Horned has been calling
on and off since Nov.
Good Birding to all,
