Saturday afternoon, April 3, a female Ruff (Reeve) in adult plumage was seen
in the northwest corner of the Bodie Island Lighthouse Pond. Gail and Keith
Sutton of Virginia had spotted the bird and we all got good looks at it. It
was observed from the end of the boardwalk out to the pond. At the deck of
the platform, it was seen to the left in the corner of the pond with a
Black-necked Stilt, lots of Yellowlegs, and Dunlin.
There were a lot of shorebirds in the pond! Very few were at Pea Island. On
the way back north, an Upland Sandpiper was seen on the side of the road just
north of the first paved parking area south of Oregon Inlet.
