I had some time this morning to go out into western Orange County along
Dairyland Road to Cane Creek Reservoir. The most interesting bird was a
Warbling Vireo at ANILORAC Farm. This is the same location where a
Warbling Vireo put in an appearance last spring. The bird was singing
from a tree in the front yard of the farm. The singing was not continuous
and persistent, but with better weater the bird may sing at more regular
intervals.

The rest of the birds were about what is expected this time of year.
Bobolinks and Grasshopper Sparrows from Maple View Farm on to Cane Creek.
Also a Cattle Egret and lots of Bank, Rough-winged, Tree and Barn
Swallows at the pond on Maple View Farm (also at Cane Creek Reservoir).
Shorebirds (Killdeer, Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpiper,
Pectoral Sandpiper, Semipalmated Sandpiper and Least Sandpiper) at Cane
Creek Reservoir. Aside from breeding warblers and Yellow-rumps,
transient warblers (Yellow, Black-throated Blue and Cerulean) were passing
through.

Finally, a Magnolia Warbler was singing persisently at Wilson Park in
Carrboro last night at my son's ball game.

I hope someone else tries to locate the Warbling Vireo (there may be
several).

Doug
