Fledgy Ovenbirds and a nest.

Hi folks,

Yesterday morning I found my first SC Ovenbird nest and the first for the
Sav. River Site. It had hatchlings of about 2 days in it. I also found a
male feeding a fledgling of about 5 days. This is distressing yet good at
the same time. It means that missed the bulk of the breeding for this year
(unless many get depredated and renest) but now know the chronology of their
breeding cycle. Since I'll be here 2 more springs... things are looking up.
We'll be looking at habitat use by breeders and young.

Meanwhile, I also went back to look for the wren. No luck, but the shrubs
are fairly extensive there, and it wasn't a good time for song (late
afternoon with drastic changes in pressure in front of the front [heh heh I
guess that puts it WAAAAAY in front]). I'll be back there this weekend to
look over the area for that bird (...not to work).

Also on site today: Several singing male B&W Warblers and a singing B-t
Blue.

Cheers
