Cbirders,
This is not about birding in the Carolinas, but it does relate to a recent
post.
While birding along the Texas coast over Spring Break in March, I noticed a
falcon hovering over the dunes of North Padre Island (South Padre is where
the wild parties are; I did not make it that far). On a hunch, or maybe
because of a latent memory, I reached for my field guides. Yes, Aplomado
Falcons also hover.
We were never able to get close looks, but we were able to observe this rare
(uncountable) species both in flight and at rest. Maybe the next time I see
one the species will have recovered to the point the presumption will be it
is a wild and not a reintroduced bird.
