sea birding on 10-13

Hi Carolinabirders,
Yesterday, I was a guest of Murray Honick and his friends on a charter
fishing boat out of Garden City, Georgetown County SC. There were a few
pelagic species found.
Cory's Shearwater-1 This large shearwater although distant had an upper
surface with the diffuse gray-brown of a Cory's and lacked any suggestion
of white upper tail coverts and a white collar of a Greater Shearwater.
The boat was well within the Gulf Stream more than 60 miles out. The water
depth was 30 fathoms and the water temperature was 81 degrees F. Curiously,
Status and Distribution of SC Birds does not cover this date in the
expected time frame for this species. Another more distant large shearwater
was also seen and was probably another though different bird of this species.
Pomarine Jaeger-1 I had a bad angle with the bird flying directly away from
me and I could not see the central tail projections. However Murray who is
familiar with the species had a much earlier, longer and satisfactory view
of this bird.
Murray also had a warbler sp
I had a female Bobolink attempt to land on the boat about 60 miles offshore.

A beautiful day at sea and we came back with some fish also!
