Wings Over Water: Day Three

Well today was a bit different weather wise than the previous two days.
Light rain ended about 6:45 am, the winds were increasing and the skies were
cloudy. As the front passed through winds increased to around 15 knots or
greater. Birding was difficult and as you would expect, hard to hear. But
despite this, the day turned out nicely and a few unreported species turned
up, such as Red-breasted Merganser, flying south (about the only direction TO
go today). With several trip reports still not in, at 5:30 pm, 186 species
have been observed or heard. Some of the highlights include:

Fulvous Whistling Ducks
Ross's Geese
Snow Bunting
Lapland Longspur
Purple Finch
Rough-legged Hawk
Stilt Sandpiper
White-winged Dove
Peregine Falcon (plenty)
Piping Plover
White-rumped Sandpiper
Purple Sandpiper
Black-legged Kittiwake
Parasitic Jaegers (from shore)
Red-cockaded Woodpecker
Clay-colored Sparrow

As soon as the field trip lists are all in an accounted for, a complete
listing will be posted on the Wings Over Water website:

    www.northeast-nc.com/wings

and on carolinabirds.

Come join us next year for the 2001 Wings Over Water Wildlife Celebration,
the first full weekend in November.
