Hi Folks,
I wonder what effect these species will have on ground nesting birds (B&W
Warbler, Ovenbird, Bobwhite, Turkey, Swainies, Hermit Thrush etc.). Working
just north of the Savannah River, I have encountered many of both Coyote and
Armadillo (I think it should be pointed out that they are expanding their
own ranges without people moving animals). The same is happening everywhere.
We have Black Bear sightings on site here in Aiken County. With the coyote,
I suspect that if the red wolf were here this would not be happening. I even
hear, blowing in the wind, the idea that states and feds are going to start
controling these "invasive" species (prob for the bobwhite and turkey pops).
Crazy. Perhaps in New England people should start shooting Red-bellied
Woodpeckers, Titmice, Cardinals, Mockers etc. since they are new arrivals
there. Moose are recent arrivals in MA (so what that they were there 100
years back). We have such a small frame of temporal reference. Just think.
In 10 million years they will have all evolved under different pressures (if
they are still extant) into different species. Hmmmm... Carolina Wild-dog...
Aiken Coot... Southeastern Moose.
I can't wait
