Spent 4 hours at Umstead SP Sunday pm. Went from last car-park from
70 entrance, down to boating lake, up to airport view, then most of
company mill trail, and sycamore trail. The list was almost all
wintering birds:
WT sparrow 5+
YB sapsucker 10+
RB grosbeak 1
YR warbler 2
RC kinglet dozens
GC kinglet dozens
C chickadee 10+
C wren 2
T titmouse 20+
Slate-colored Junco 7: first of the season
hermit thrush 3
possibly another thrush sp, but poor looks
Am robins several flocks of 20+
WB nuthatch 6
brown creeper 1: first of the season: one of my winter favorites
RH woodpecker: the first one I've seen in this park
RB WP 3
Downy WP 1
Am crow 4
T Vulture 3
GB heron 1: standing in the middle of the road directing traffic as
we were leaving!
E phoebe 2
G catbird 1
N mockingbird 2
Canada goose 12 on boating lake
E starlings 10+
The boating lake was very bare, but I hope to get a better showing
later into the season: last winter/spring I logged 10 species of duck
on there, some in good numbers.
Regards
