I cruised by a local pond today looking for shorebirds (1 Pectoral and 1
Least), but was surprised to find newly arrived ducks. 2 Ruddy (not listed
for the week on Will's CH list), 7 Northern Shoveler (listed as rare) and
half a dozen Green-winged Teal (uncommon). Of course Wake County is a
little different than Chapel Hill, but the birds are here earlier than I've
seen in the past. We also still have RT hummers zipping around the back
yard, a little later than normal for us.
