The area N of hwy 136 (Mooresville Hwy) is entirely flooded, and is home to
most of the waterfowl seen today - especially the NE quadrant. The main
body of the reservoir (Lake Don T. Howell - N end)) was notably bereft of
birds. Observed visually and heard along with the more usual suspects:
Pied-billed Grebe
Northern Shoveler - 12
Green-winged Teal - 30
Redhead - 1
Ruddy Duck - 20
American Coot - 40
Eastern Phoebe - 1
Eastern Bluebird - 6
Brown Thrasher - 1
Cedar Waxwing - 60
Yellow-rumped Warbler
Pine Warbler
Eastern Towhee
Chipping Sparrow
Field Sparrow
Fox Sparrow - 3
White-throated Sparrow
Dark-eyed Junco
Eastern Meadowlark
American Goldfinch
The passerines were noted mostly in the brush, grass, and trees at the sides
of Shimpock Rd.
Cheers!
