Today at noon, after reading the posting of the red-neck
grebe at Oregon Inlet, I decide to take a ride down there to
see it. On the way down I stopped at Bodie Island
Lighthouse and spotted two woodcocks beside a large puddle
right in back of the lighthouse. The closer I got to Oregon
Inlet the foggier it got. I wasn't able to find the
red-neck grebe , but got good looks at a little blue heron
"hiding" in the brush at the launching ramp. On the was
back I went up the Old Oregon Inlet Road and got great looks
at a snowy egret. I was able to watch as he used his feet to
root up the bottom. I also say a kestrel, and a kingfisher,
and a killdeer on that road.
