I hesitate to make any comment on the Sharp-tail Questions at all as I'm
a recent subscriber and don't know what has previously been discussed,
and furthermore haven't seen the bird, except to mention that the
excellent article by Sibley in the June 1996 issue of Birding "Field
Identification of the Sharp-tailed Sparrow Complex" has been so very
useful in separating these two species and also goes into distribution
to some degree. Both species winter here, (FL) of course, and even in
the difficult to ID individuals the streaked rear supercilium of the
Saltmarsh seems to be a very reliable characteristic to consider, at
least among the species we see. Just wondering if your bird shows this
feature.
Would appreciate help in getting to the list archives, as I haven't seen
reference to the URL on the Birdmail (Siler) site. Would someone be so
kind as to send that to me. Thanks. Am looking forward to NC visits
this spring.
