The following are highlights of the 3 hour Wednesday morning birdwalk at
Charleston County's Caw Caw Park on highway 17 south in Ravenel, SC led by
Perry Nugent at 8:30 am. A small fee is charged. For more information type
www.ccprc.com.
58 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day. The most interesting were;
1 Swallow-tailed Kite, 2 Ospreys ( nest ), 2 adult and 2 baby Bald Eagles
babies still on nest ), 200 Greater Yellowlegs, 50 Least Sandpipers, 6
Pectoral Sandpipers, 4 Dunlins, 1 baby Horned Owl, 1 Barred Owl, 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird, 8 Purple Martins, 200 + Tree Swallows, 2
Rough-winged Swallows, 1 White-breasted Nuthatch, 20 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers
( many nests ), 20 White-eyed Vireos ( 1 nest ), 1 Blue-headed Vireo, 20
Red-eyed Vireos, 12 Northern Parula warblers, 20 Yellow-throated Warblers, 4
Prothonotary Warblers, 4 Common Yellowthroats, and 1 Savannah Sparrow.
