I have had a Swarowski AT-80 (non HD glass) and now have the Leica APO
Televid 77.
I much prefer the Leica. I always had problems with the Swarowski getting
floppy up on my Bogen quick disconnect head. I am not alone on
that. Unless they have made changes in the mount on the Swarowski, it is
smaller than the Bogen quick disconnect connector and it loosens up. If
you go with a different tripod, or Swarowski has made changes this may not
be a problem. The Leica has a larger mount which allows one to use a
second 1/4 20 set screw and so the connection is very firm and seldom
loosens up.
Because the mount is firmer and the optics better, the image appears
clearer and brighter. This is not strictly a side by side comparison,
because I did not have Swarowski HD scope.
I have the 32 mm wide angle lens for the Leica. When I had the Swarowski I
had a zoom eye piece. I seldom found the higher magnification useful
because of heat shimmer.
I was so unhappy with the Swarowski that, nasty parent that I am, I gave it
to our son.
