Caw Caw birdwalks



The following are highlights of  the last three birdwalks at Charleston
County's Caw Caw Park on US 17 south in Ravenel, SC led by Perry Nugent at
8:30 am.  A small fee is charged. For more information click on

June 18, 2003

54 species were seen and/or heard on a rainy day.  The most interesting
were; 1 least Bittern, 1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron, 5 Wood Storks, 3
Mottled Ducks, 2 adult and 1 baby Ospreys, 1 King Rail, 1 Yellow-billed
Cuckoo, 1 Loggerhead Shrike, 1 yellow-throated Vireo, 4 Northern Parula
Warbler, 5 Prothonotary Warblers, 1 Blue Grosbeak, 1 Indigo Bunting, 4
Painted Buntings, and 3 Orchard Orioles.

June 21, 2003

51 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day.  The most interesting were;
3 Least Bitterns, 4 Mississippi Kites, 2 adult and 1 baby Ospreys, 3
Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 10 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 1 Willow Flycatcher
calling whit near Acadians that were calling pitsa, 1 Wood Thrush, 10 Parula
Warblers, 1 Yellow-throated Warbler, 1 Prothonotary Warbler, 2
Blue-grosbeaks, 2 Indigo Buntings, 4 painted Buntings, and 6 Orchard
Orioles.

June 25, 2003

52 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day.  The most interesting were;
12 Anhingas, 1 Swallow-tailed Kite, 3 adult and 1 baby Ospreys, 10
Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 4 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 20 Acadian Flycatchers,
1 Loggerhead Shrike, 15 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers some with fledglings, 20
White-eyed Vireos some with fledglings, 1 Yellow-throated Vireo, 2 Red-eyed
Vireos, 20 Northern Parula Warblers, 1 Prothonotary Warbler, 6 Summer
Tanagers, 10 Blue Grosebeaks Some with fledglings, 2 Indigo Buntings, 6
Painted Buntings some with Fledglings, and 6 Orchard Orioles.
