Caw Caw birdwalks



The following are highlights of the 3 hour birdwalks at Charleston County's
Caw Caw Park which is on US 17 in Ravenel, SC about 10 miles south of the
intersection of US 17 and US 526.  It is led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am.  A

July 19, 2003

57 species were seen and/or heard.  The most interesting were; 25 Anhingas,
2 least Bitterns, 1 immature Black-crowned Night Heron, 1 immature
Yellow-crowned Night Heron, 20 White Ibis, 40 Wood Storks, 2 Mississippi
Kites, 1 Swallow-tailed Kites, 2 adult and 1 baby Ospreys, 10 Red-shouldered
Hawks, 2 Red-tailed Hawks, 2 Solitary Sandpipers, 2 Spotted Sandpipers, 2
Yellow-billed Cuckoos, 1 Barred Owl, 10 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, 15
Purple Martins, 1 Wood Thrush, 2 Northern Parulas, 1 Summer Tanager, 2 Blue
Grosbeaks, 1 Indigo bunting, and 12 Painted Buntings.

July 23, 2003

57 species were seen and/or heard.  The most interesting were; 12 Anhingas,
1 Yellow-crowned Night Heron, 1 hen and 10 baby Wood Ducks, 2 Mississippi
Kites, 2 Swallow-tailed Kites, 3 adult Ospreys no baby seen, 12
Red-shouldered Hawks, 1 Red-tailed Hawk, 4 Semipalmated Plovers, 1 Solitary
Sandpiper, 2 Spotted Sandpipers, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 6 Ruby-throated
Hummingbirds, 3 Pileated Woodpeckers, 1 Black-and-white Warbler, 5 Blue
Grosebeaks, 3 Indigos, and 3 Painted Buntings.
