The following are highlights of the 3 hour Sunday birdwalk at Magnolia
Plantation at 3550 Ashley River Road ( highway 61 ) northwest of Charleston,
SC led by Perry Nugent at 8:30 am. A fee is charged.
July 6, 2003
47 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day. The most interesting were;
20 Pied-billed grebes with babies, 70 Anhingas with many babies, 15 Least
Bitterns with babies, 50 Great Egrets, 30 Snowy Egrets, 30 Cattle Egrets,
100 Little Blue Herons, 35 Tri-colored Herons, 25 Green herons, 8
Black-crowned Night Herons, 1 fledgling Yellow-crowned Night Heron, all of
the heron and egret species have young on nests and they are starting to
fledge but there are some eggs that were just laid, 100+ Wood Ducks with
babies, 5 Mississippi Kites, 50+ Common Moorhens many babies, 1 Black
Skimmer, 2 Eastern Kingbirds, 1 Summer Tanager, 2 Painted Buntings including
one that is bright green above and bright orange below.
