Long-billed Curlews and Reddish Egrets at Shackleford Banks, NC

On Sunday morning, 27 July, the Carteret Bird Club birded the east end
of Shackleford Banks. Our best finds were 2 Long-billed Curlews and 2
Reddish Egrets. One of the Long-billeds was along the tidal creek that
runs from the Bardens Inlet shore back into the hidden mudflats. It was
near the upper end of the tidal creek, where it begins at "the pond".
The other Long-billed was on the sound shoreline, to the north. The
Reddish Egrets were on the sound shoreline, about 1/2 mile from the
inlet.

We also had about 60 Wilson's Plovers (47 in one flock) and 5 Piping
Plovers, the latter on the wide sand flats on the ocean side of the
barrier island. About 20 Marbled Godwits and about 25 Whimbrels.
