We did a hawk count at a ridge in the Smokies today. It was a modest day
with 55 Broad-wingeds until 2:30. Then a Golden Eagle came in and soared
before heading south. It was a good view, just visible to the naked eye but
good in 10X bins. A sub-adult.
About 40 minutes later two imature Missippi Kites came directly overhead at
medium height and soared for a minuter or two. At one time they were
backlighted and displayed both soaring and ''fluttering" flight.
The only other migrant was a Kestrel.
