Caw Caw birdwalks



The following are highlights of the 3 hour birdwalks at Charleston County's
Caw Caw Park which is on US 17 in Ravenel, SC about 10 miles south of the
intersection of US 17 and US 526. A small fee is charged.  For more

September 13, 2003

47 species were seen and/or heard on a slow birding day.  The most
interesting were; 6 Red-shouldered Hawks, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 4 Barred
Owls, 3 Red-headed Woodpeckers, 6 Acadian Flycatchers, 6 Tree Swallows, 30
White-eyed Vireos, 10 Red-eyed Vireos, 6 Parula Warblers, 3 Chestnut-sided
Warblers, 5 Pine Warblers, 3 Northern Waterthrushes, 1 Summer Tanager, 6
Indigo Buntings, 5 Painted Buntings, and Bobolinks.

September 17, 2003

50 species were seen and/or heard on a nice but windy day.  The most
interesting were; 70 White Ibis, 3 Wood Storks, 1 Bald Eagle, 1 Cooper's
Hawk, 1 Yellow-billed Cuckoo, 1 Red-headed Woodpecker, 1 Hairy Woodpecker, 2
Loggerhead Shrikes, 6 Parula Warblers, 2 Yellow Warblers, 1 Magnolia
Warbler, 1 Palm Warbler, 4 Black-and-white Warblers, 14 American Redstarts,
2 Summer Tanagers, and 1 Painted Bunting.
