Cow caw birdwalks



The following are highlights of the 3 hour birdwalks at Charleston County's
Caw Caw Park which is located on US 17 in Ravenel, SC about 10 miles south
of the intersection of US 17 and US 526.  They are led by Perry Nugent each
Wednesday and Saturday at 8:30 am.  A small fee is charged.  For more

October 18, 2003

56 species were seen and/or heard on a cool, cloudy turning nice day.  The
most interesting were;  1 Young Black-crowned Night Heron, 30 Wood Storks, 2
Adult Bald Eagles ( female has band will try to read number ), 2 Northern
Harriers, 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, 3 Red-shouldered Hawks, 1 American Kestrel,
1 Solitary Sandpiper, 50 Common Snipe, 1 Barred Owl, 1 Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker, 1 House Wren, 3 Marsh Wrens, 1 Loggerhead Shrike, 1 Northern
Parula Warbler, 3 Yellow-rumped Warblers, 50 + Palm Warblers, 2 Young Indigo
Buntings, and 2 Eastern Meadowlarks.

50 species were seen and/or heard on a nice day.  The most interesting were;
50+ White Ibis, 70 + Wood Storks, 1 Osprey, 2 Adult and 1 first year Bald
Eagles, 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk, 5 Red-shouldered Hawks, 1 Solitary Sandpiper,
12 Common Snipe, 5 Pileated Woodpeckers, 1 House Wren, 1 Marsh Wren, 550 +
Palm warblers, 2 Young Indigo Buntings, 1 Eastern Towhee, and 10 Eastern
Meadowlarks.
